His dedication and passion for creating a more environmentally conscious society are evident in his numerous endeavours. Firstly, Louis has actively participated in various sustainability groups, showcasing his commitment to the cause. His involvement with Precious Plastic Monash stands out as he has organized remarkable events and fostered collaboration among like-minded individuals, student groups, and staff. This demonstrates his ability to lead and create meaningful opportunities for others to engage in sustainability initiatives. Moreover, Louis’s positions within the Monash Association of Sustainability have allowed him to conduct valuable research on plastic usage and climate action. By actively seeking solutions and bringing about positive change within the university, Louis has shown his ability to translate his passion into tangible results.

Louis’s impact extends beyond his involvement in student groups. I wanted to make particular mention of the Sustainability Food Fair that Louis helped manage and create in his role as Office Bearer at the students union at Monash. They organised this incredible celebration of food and the ways in which it could be sustainable. The event featured over 10 stalls, live music, and interactive sustainability games. Participating clubs and stalls included Green Caffeen, Sustainable Solutions Monash, Precious Plastic Monash, Wholefoods, All Things Equal bagels, PAWA, Indian Society, Plant-based BBQ, and an Indigenous BBQ offering kangaroo sausages and damper.

This event was one of the largest collaborative efforts post-COVID and had one of the largest in-person attendances with over 700 students dropping by. This event held great importance as it served as an accessible entry point to sustainability, attracting a wide range of students and making the concept of sustainability more approachable. After the challenges of the pandemic, it was crucial to create an environment where students could re-engage with student life and culture in a meaningful way. By bringing together various clubs and stalls focused on sustainable practices, the event provided students with a firsthand experience of different sustainable options and initiatives. It allowed them to explore and learn about sustainable food choices, waste reduction, and other environmentally friendly practices in an interactive and engaging manner.

Furthermore, the event played a vital role in making sustainability fun and enjoyable, which was especially important in the aftermath of the pandemic. It provided an opportunity for students to reconnect with their peers, experience live music, and participate in interactive sustainability games. By infusing elements of entertainment and enjoyment, the event fostered a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encouraged students to embrace sustainable practices in their everyday lives.

Additionally, this event served as a significant reactivation of student life and culture post-COVID. It brought students together in a shared space, reigniting the sense of community and camaraderie that had been disrupted by the pandemic. The event not only highlighted the importance of sustainability but also served as a platform for students to reconnect, socialize, and rediscover the vibrant student life that Monash University offers.

Overall, Louis’s exceptional actions and contributions in the field of sustainability make him deserving of winning. His dedication, leadership, and ability to create meaningful change within the university community make him a remarkable candidate for recognition and celebration.
